UPDATE: The following steps worked for a little less than a week. Then Facebook yanked the rights. It is still true that you cannot disable Facebook recent activity.

As recently as January you could not turn off recent activity in Facebook. So if you commented on Billy’s wall, or liked Linda’s Flower Shop, or became friends with Jim Joyce, you got a nice ugly line on your wall that you had to remove one by one to rid yourself of embarassment. To make matters worse, recent activity included information to people that you may have b-listed or pseudo-blocked. So say you blocked Jane, and John wrote on your wall. Jane can’t see your wall because she’s not on the a-list, but John’s recent activity claims your wall is active. So now Jane confronts you (weird) and you have to explain to Jane that you a) blocked her and/or b) hate Facebook. Freaking awkward man.
After plenty of complaining and plenty of members flat out disabling their Facebook accounts over privacy issues, FB seems to have turned over a new leaf. Yes, friends, I’ve turned off Facebook recent activity. And here’s how you do it…
Step 1: Log-in To Facebook
Step 2: Go to the Account pulldown in the top right corner and click Application Settings.
Step 3: Click “Edit Settings” for Facebook
Step 4: Uncheck The Box and Hit “Okay”
Voila! Thanks, Facebook. Now stop being evil.
Is this for real or a joke? This has been driving me insane since they removed the ability to disable activity posts. Unfortunately I do not have “Facebook” in any of my application lists. I see the Android App there, but is that other one simply another mobile application? I have completely fine tuned all of my privacy settings, so I know my way around the current system. I am just need seeing Facebook listed in any of my application lists, so I am unable to make this change. Any advise?
Tim. Wasn’t a joke. I confirmed with my friends at Facebook that they changed the privacy settings once again between last Friday when this was posted and yesterday so I should edit my post. If you dig deep enough you will find Facebook as a desktop app. I went so far as to delete that, and my recent activity was still appearing. My Facebook insiders are trying to push for me to get my way, because I’m about 3 days from deactivating my account entirely if they don’t let me control my wall and fix their filters.
